2007 ALUMNI AWARDS
Four men of distinction are recipients of the 2007 alumni awards. John Kooyenga ’66 of Tinley Park, Illinois is Alumnus of the Year. The associate professor of business has taught at Trinity for more than 25 years. He has been instrumental in placing many of Trinity’s business graduates in jobs throughout the Chicagoland area. Kooyenga has expanded his influence in recent years by teaching in the adult studies program as well as the traditional program. He and his wife, Audrey, have recently established a scholarship for business majors.
“It is an honor and a privilege for me to receive this award, especially when I look at the quality and caliber of the individuals who have received the award in previous years,” Kooyenga said. “I have had the opportunity to work with many truly talented and gifted students who now in their professional careers use their talents and abilities to serve their Lord and Savior.”
The 2007 Honorary Alumni Award recipients are Dr. Robert Rice, Dr. Kenneth Bootsma, and Martin Ozinga III.
Dr. Rice contributed to the success of many students during his 28 years teaching in the Trinity history department. He and his wife, Gail, served as resident directors in faculty apartments during some of that time.
Dr. Bootsma helped pave the way for Trinity’s future. He served the College as president from 1984-1996. During his tenure as president, the College constructed two residence halls and the Jennie Huizenga Memorial Library.
Martin Ozinga III served on the Trinity board of trustees. He and his wife Ruth, a former Trinity student, have been key supporters in major building developments. They help promote the College all over the world. Trinity honored them this year with the Global Service Award for their work with the Luke Society, an organization of Christian professionals dedicated to medical missions.
The alumni award recipients will be honored at the annual Presidential Alumni Dinner on Friday, February 2, during Homecoming weekend. To attend, contact Kelly Netjes in the alumni office at 708.239.4854 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
