A combined class of 126 traditional baccalaureate students and adult studies students celebrated Commencement on December 13, 2008.
The keynote speaker was Rev. Willis Van Groningen, Ph.D., chaplain of the College.
“Graduates of 2008, as you head further and deeper into these turbulent times, allow me to suggest that we all might do a bit better if we focused less on our career and more on the beauty of a life well lived,” said Van Groningen in his address “A Beautiful Career.”
“As you head further and deeper into this turbulent world of ours,” he continued, “I urge you to ... do what it takes to search out the way of beauty. Be courageous. Dare to live generously.”
Welcoming these newest alumni and encouraging their continued bond with the College, Nadia Swearingen-Friesen ’89, alumni board president, said, “Today the connection that you have to this community will begin to stretch, and you will have the opportunity to see a bit of what God has seen all along.”
Dr. John Hoekstra, director of adult studies and associate professor of education, gave the invocation; and Janine Wegner, adult studies business graduate, led the litany reading.
