Alumni Win Gold for Documentary on Trinity's 50th

Cultivate Studios, started by alumni Bret Hoekema ’02, Chris Pierik ’01, and Mark Wierda ’03, was awarded the Gold at the 2009 International AVA Awards competition for their documentary With Courage, Faith & Vision, created for Trinity’s 50th anniversary.

“Gold” is the AVA Awards’ second highest honor in the category of “Video Produced for a School.” Cultivate also received a Platinum award for their web video microsite created for Roseland Christian School.”

The International AVA Awards recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, direction, shooting and editing of audio-visual materials and programs. The AVA Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).

“We are very honored to have been given the opportunity to make a promotional documentary for Trinity, and we hope that With Courage, Faith & Vision promotes the school in a powerful way,” said Hoekema, filmmaker. “I think it’s fantastic that Trinity would support alumni with a project of this stature, but it’s also a great decision in terms of hiring filmmakers who already have a good understanding of the history and culture of Trinity.”

The documentary DVD includes a 38-minute video including interviews with founders, faculty, alumni, and students; a 12-minute version which debuted at the 50th anniversary Jubilee! dinner celebration; and more than 300 photographs, including historic and contemporary images. It can be purchased by visiting the Bootsma Bookstore Café Web site: http://bbc.trnty.edu/Bookstore/index.html

“Trinity also made a great decision in deciding to create a documentary,” said Hoekema. “In my experience, all schools are seeking to celebrate their milestone anniversaries, but few schools have chosen to bring their history to life through video. This video allows you to sit face-to-face with the actual founders of Trinity and hear in their own words how they managed to gather enough support to start a college.”
