Women's Soccer Team in NAIA National Tournament

In their first-ever NAIA national tournament appearance on Saturday, November 22, the Trolls posted a shut-out victory.  The No. 10 seeded Trolls hosted Houghton College (NY) in the 2008 NAIA National Tournament Opening Round and took a 4-0 victory. The team now advances to join a field of 16 teams in Daytona Beach, Florida, on December 1-6 for the continuation of the national tournament.

Trinity came out attacking the goal at the start, and in the opening minutes of the game already fired off a couple of good shots. The first shot that got them on the board came just 7:33 into the game when freshman midfielder Allison Doyle found the net on a ball that the Houghton keeper batted away after an attempt by junior midfielder Claire Comerouski.
The Trolls’ offensive continued to push and at the 15 minute mark junior forward Carly Comerouski settled the ball in front of the goal, made a move, and sent it by the defenders and out of reach of the keeper to make it 2-0. Just three minutes later the Comerouskis paired up as Carly fed the ball from the right side to Claire who scored.

Before the half was completed Carly Comerouski struck once again. This time she took a nice feed from junior forward Alyssa Lee and sailed the ball up and over the keeper.

In the second period Houghton become more aggressive offensively, but the Trolls stayed in command with the 4-0 lead. Trinity was able to use every player on the team and hold the shut-out victory.

For the game Trinity took 11 shots, ten of which came in the first half. Houghton had a total of eight attempts, with six of those n the second period. Goalkeepers Hannah Gonzales and Taryne Blomgren shared the shut-out.

The Trolls will now advance to the next round of the tournament that will be played at Embry-Riddle University (Daytona Beach, FL) on December 1-6. They will play against California Baptist University at 4 pm (est) on Tuesday, December 2.
