SOCIAL WORK GRANTED CANDIDACY FOR ACCREDITATION
The social work department took a major step toward accreditation when the Council on Social Work Education granted candidacy status for its baccalaureate program earlier in November. The CSWE is the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the United States.

"This is wonderful news from the CSWE," said Mackenzi Huyser, Trinity's social work department chair. "We are thrilled for the opportunities this creates for the College and our students."

The department met the eligibility criteria set by the CSWE to have its candidacy application accepted. Now the social work program will undergo two years of self-studies and visits from commissioners of the council. Of all the institutions that receive candidacy, 98 percent of them achieve accreditation.

The CSWE seeks to ensure that social workers have the knowledge and skills to be competent and proficient in their field, and their accreditation is a stamp of approval on a social work degree. Candidacy gives prospective students confidence that the program is working to maximize its graduates' potential to begin careers in social work.
