Outsider Art Exhibit in New ARCC

The Seerveld Gallery in Trinity’s new Art and Communication Center is showcasing work curated by Chicago gallery director John Cain. The showcase is called “Outsider Art: A Personal Collection.”

For this exhibit, Cain decided to look for these pieces outside of normal artistic circles, which led him to showcase his personal collection of outsider art. The collection of art includes two dozen artists who were all self-taught and discovered after their deaths. The works are from around the country, bringing a unique history to each piece.

Cain has served as the executive director for South Shore Arts since 1993. He is a member of the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council and the East Chicago Arts Initiative. Cain is also a contributing member to Shore magazine and host of “Eye on the Arts,” a weekly segment on Lakeshore Public Television evening news.

The exhibit will be in the Seerveld Gallery through December 12, 2008. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
