The American Volleyball Coaches Association acknowledged Trinity's 2002 women's volleyball team for its excellence in the classroom by selecting the Trolls as one of its Team Academic Award winners.

The AVCA honors high school and college volleyball teams throughout the United States who have combined athletic achievement with academic success. This year, 205 such programs nationwide received the award, each of them with cumulative grade-point averages of 3.3 or better.

"We stress the priority of academics, and it's gratifying that our athletes take their studies seriously," said coach Sue Gasperec. "There is a greater sense of affirmation that comes from the AVCA recognizing the time and diligence our players invest to maintain their good grades."

Last season, the Trolls finished 19-21. As this year winds down, they have guaranteed themselves a record no worse than .500 and are eyeing the post-season play in the CCAC and national tournaments.
