A Weekend for Families at Trinity

Film, fall concerts, food, and fun greeted Family Weekend visitors on October 25-28.

The Reckoning
The weekend started off Thursday evening with the final event in the new WorldView series. Nearly 500 people watched the documentary The Reckoning: Remembering the Dutch Resistance and met Diet Eman and John Knight, two of the subjects of the film who had lived through the Dutch struggle against the Nazis.

Music lovers had a variety of concerts to choose from over the weekend, including the fall instrumental, chamber, and fall choral concerts. All the performances highlighted the talents of student musicians and vocalists.

Art workshop with Marlene Boonstra
Artist and Trinity alumna Marlene Boonstra ’82 offered a demonstration of watercolor techniques to artists and art admirers. Boonstra recently donated her artwork for auction to raise funds for the building of the Art and Communication Center.

Blue and White Night
The Trinity women’s basketball team played the alumni women’s team and the men’s team faced each other in an inter-squad scrimmage to raise money for a missionary in the Dominican Republic. Each year team members and coaches pair up with SCORE International for an athletics mission trip to the Dominican.

“Even though our alumni team lost, it was great to be reunited with former teammates and Troll athletes and work together to raise money for mission work,” said Kara Bruxvoort ’03, conference and events coordinator for the College.

Other events included:

  • “Trinity gear” fashion show
  • Powder Puff football
  • 5K TrollTrot
  • Open house at the President’s home

This annual event is always a great opportunity for families to enjoy time together and become better acquainted with the campus.
