TRINITY JUNIOR CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN
CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PROGRAM AT MARTHA'S VINEYARD

Karen Van Heukelem, a junior from Denver, is part of a select group of students chosen to study and work at the Contemporary Music Center on Martha's Vineyard this fall. The program provides students with practical knowledge in the music industry, where Van Heukelem serves as manager for four developing artists. According to CMC creative director Tom Willett, she "quickly distinguished herself as a leader in her class. Her unique vision, deep personal commitment, and tremendous work ethic have proven invaluable in the lives of the artists she manages."

Sponsored by BestSemester.com and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, the CMC is the nation's only artist community dedicated solely to making and marketing contemporary music. Van Heukelem is the first Trinity student to attend the CMC since the program became affiliated with the CCCU in 2001. "The CMC has given me a head start on how to survive in this fast-paced industry," she said. "It has shown me possibilities that I never knew were there. I have grown so much discovering the intricacies of managing musicians."

The Center offers classes in songwriting, recording, live performance, career management, music business, and entertainment marketing on ca campus that encompasses 21 acres and features four recording studios and fully-equipped music business offices.
