PROFESSOR RECEIVES EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD
The Council for Exceptional Children has chosen Dr. Patti Powell, associate professor of education and director of the Alexander De Jong Center for Special Education, to receive the Illinois Teacher Education Division Excellence in Teaching Award for the 2006-2007 school year.
Each year the CEC presents an award to a teacher educator who has made outstanding contributions in teaching and/or program design or coordination in special education. Powell was nominated for the award by a Trinity colleague.
Powell was pleased to receive the award, as well as notification from Dr. Mary Bay, vice president of the Illinois Teacher Education Division and a professor of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
"The news was even more special coming from Dr. Bay," said Powell, "because she had mentored me through my dissertation process."
The CEC is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.
