Chicago Humanities Festival Fellow: Rebecca VanderWilt
With two previous Chicago Humanities festivals to her credit, Rebecca VanderWilt ’10 of Freeport, Illinois, is looking forward to attending her third. Through a program sponsored by the Associated Colleges of Illinois, VanderWilt has once again been named the ACI Humanities Fellow.
Speaking of her experience at past festivals, VanderWilt said, “One of the most inspiring events was a panel of college students talking about what they were doing on their campuses to promote ecology.”
VanderWilt’s involvement in the Social Justice Chapter, her enrollment in the Semester in Spain program, and her passion for learning have prompted her participation in the festival again this year.
“I have always been surprised how various speakers at the Chicago Humanities Festival touch on topics that we are also discussing in classes at Trinity,” VanderWilt said. “This semester I have been more vocal than ever in my classes, so I trust that I will be able to share what I learn with my classmates.”
“Thinking Big” is the theme of this year's Chicago Humanities Festival, which will be held October 29—November 16. Events range from lectures to art exhibits and cover topics from literature to global warming.
“I have looked through the list of events for this year, and I already know that I will have a hard time choosing which ones to attend,” said VanderWilt.
