Trinity Christian College has established a special committee to conduct the search for a new leader to take office in time for the 2003-04 academic year. The College appointed Dr. Anthony Diekema, former president of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. from 1975 - 1995, to serve as interim president for one year.

"My focus for the short term is to make sure I don't have a job at the end of the 2003 academic year," Diekema said. "We want to find the right candidate who fulfills the criteria for leadership that the College has set forth."

Bill Weidenaar of Evergreen Park, Ill., a former chairman of the board of trustees, will head the committee, composed of representatives from the faculty, staff, student body, administrative council, board of trustees, and constituents. The diverse selection of committee members ensures that a voice from each group within the Trinity community can contribute to the search and eventual selection of the new president.

"We want to get as much input as possible," Provost Liz Rudenga said. "The selection of the next president obviously will impact everyone associated with the College, so it is important to have a high degree of participation."

Local members of the search committee include Trinity professors  Bob Rice (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Lou Sytsma (Palos Heights, Ill.); Ken Dryfhout (Oak Lawn, Ill.); Kim Parejko (Mokena, Ill.); Tom Vloedman (Lockport, Ill.); Henry Doorn (Palos Heights, Ill.); Wendi Waller (Chicago); Jul Medenblik (New Lenox, Ill.); and Ruth Ozinga (Lockport, Ill.). The group met recently to determine the next steps in the process.

The Presidential Search Committee is meeting regularly and making good progress. There are many very well-qualified candidates among the 30 who are actively pursuing the position. The interview process is underway and the Committee hopes to complete its work in March.
