When Dr. Steven Timmermans began his first week as president of Trinity Christian College, he found his surroundings to be welcoming and familiar.

Timmermans, Trinity's seventh president, spent most of his time in discussions with his assistant, Kim Parejko, preparing for meetings and this weekend's Blueprints, the College's annual reception of new students and guests. At the end of the day, he did not feel like a newcomer.

"I talked to Kim, and she said the day went as though I have always been here, and I felt the same way," he said. "There were no surprises, and I was at ease with the agenda of what I need to do here."

Timmermans attributed much of his smooth transition to Dr. Tony Diekema, who completed a one-year term as Trinity's interim president July 1.

"Tony suggested that I come to campus a few times before beginning my official duties to familiarize myself with the people here so I could hit the ground running when I started," he said. "That certainly has been a big advantage for me, and I expect it will continue to be beneficial over time."

Trinity will host the inauguration ceremony for Dr. Timmermans on Saturday, Oct. 4.
