Rainy weather threatened to wash out the alumni golf outing Saturday, June 12 in Chesterton, Indiana, but sunshine gave the 94 golfers a mulligan in the afternoon.

A heavy thunderstorm the night before left The Brassie Golf Club soggy in some spots, but once the course dried, John Dieck '93, Dean Vander Zee '94, Joe Graffeo '94, and Steve Balkema '95 emerged with an 11-under 61, the lowest score of any foursome. John Bandstra and Alan Van Zuidum were the winning duo after carding a 69.

"The rain added length to the course, but it softened the greens as well," said Dennis Harms '89, director of alumni and donor relations. "The conditions invited the players to fire at the flagsticks, and the game is easier and more fun to play under those conditions. I think everyone who participated enjoyed themselves on the course."

The annual outing raises funds for Alumni Scholarships, which are given each year to students whose parents are alumni of the College. This year's event generated more than $6,500 for those awards.

Scott Pothoven '97, Chris Van Til '99, Brad Brunsma '99, and Nate Rinsema '00 took second place among the foursomes of the best-ball scramble format while Tom Kamp '92 and Tom Nagelkirk '92 were the runner-up pair.

The alumni relations office held a Dutch auction that included passes to The Brassie, tickets to Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs baseball games, and golf balls.
