Despite the prediction of rain for June 2, it turned out to be a beautiful day for the Alumni Golf Outing as 78 golfers hit the course at George Dunne National in Oak Forest, Illinois, to raise funds for the Alumni Excellence Scholarship.

Sponsorships were up significantly this year. All the proceeds from the outing, six thousand dollars, will fund the renewable scholarship, which is awarded to up to three children of alumni each year.

“It was a great day for fun and fellowship,” said Kelly Netjes ’02, director of alumni relations, “and a wonderful opportunity to raise money for the Alumni Excellence Scholarship.”

The four-person scramble began with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. and ended with dinner and an awards program. The winning foursome, with a score of 60 (12 under par) included Matt Huizinga ’01, Jeff VanderNaald, Chris VanderNaald ex ’05, and Ryan VanderNaald. The second place foursome, with a score of 65 (seven under par), included Brent Van Dyk ’85, Matt Huisman ’93, Brian Eggert ex ’04, and Jeff DeBoer ’01.

“Our group had a fantastic time,” said Mike Macco ’04. “This was the first time I came to the outing, and I was very impressed. Trinity puts on a great event.”

Macco works in corporate cash management at Suburban Bank & Trust Co. in Elmhurst, Illinois, one of the event sponsors.

“I'm honored that our bank was invited to be a sponsor, and I hope we get to do it again next year. Thanks to Kelly and the rest of those involved for all of their hard work.”
