Fantasy Author Visits Campus
Fantasy author L. B. Graham, M.Div., signed copies of the books from his series The Binding of the Blade at the Bootsma Bookstore Café on May 20.
Prior to the signing, Graham gave a brief talk about the writing life and answered questions from fans of fantasy and good storytelling. He credits a “reading mother” with being one of his early influences along with Greek mythology and authors C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Graham’s novels are written during scheduled hours in between teaching at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, and spending time with his family. The Binding of the Blade series includes: Beyond the Summerland, Bringer of Storms, Shadow in the Deep, Father of Dragons, and All My Holy Mountain, due out in June. The concept for the series was born in 1992 while Graham was participating in Wheaton in England, a summer study program.
Unlike The Chronicles of Narnia, which contain clear parallels with Christian theology, the stories Graham crafts are not overtly Christian, yet the series’ fantastical world operates on the principles of the author’s Christian worldview.
During his visit to Trinity, Graham also served as a guest lecturer at the annual Law, Justice and Culture Institute and presented “A Call to Fidelity.”
