College Welcomes Young Authors
On April 29, Trinity hosted the annual Young Authors Festival for nearly 225 elementary students and authors in the making.
The Festival began on Monday evening with a presentation from featured children’s author and illustrator Kevin Luthardt. Trinity’s TrinProv team also performed for the parents and children who gathered in the Grand Lobby.
Tuesday brought bus loads of students to campus, representing fourteen schools around the area, all eager to present their books.
“They are so excited to share their own work,” said Bill DeRuiter ’09 of Chicago Ridge, Illinois. “They were so energetic and happy to be there—reasons like those make me want to be a teacher.”
Students enjoyed a morning full of song, laughter, and learning as they moved from one session to the next. The young authors had the chance to hear more from Luthardt, laugh with TrinProv, and engage in small group discussions.
“It is such a great opportunity for kids to get excited about reading and writing,” said Katy Houseward ’09 of Hudsonville, Michigan.
