ORGAN DEDICATION DRAWS HUNDREDS
Ideal weather brought several
hundred devotees of organ music to Ozinga Chapel for the dedication ceremony
of the Norman and Hilda Ozinga pipe organ.
The College recognized the
generous gift of Hilda Ozinga, who provided funding for the instrument
in honor of her late husband, Norman, a supporter and trustee of the College
during its formative years.
The hour-long ceremony featured
guest organists along with Trinity's campus and concert choirs. Dr. Dennis
Hoekstra, the College's third president, led the litany, which included
readers Linda Vander Laan and professor Dan Diephouse.
program included hymns and improvisations that highlighted the organ's
range and unique features. Guest organists Robert Lagestee, Marilyn Mulder,
Joan Ringerwole, Paula Pugh Romanaux, Paul Vander Weele, and Andrew Vogel demonstrated the
breadth of the organ's capabilities.
The 46-rank pipe organ was
designed and built by the Lauck Organ Company of Otsego, Michigan. The
cherry-wood cabinetry complements the chapel furniture handcrafted and
donated to the College by George Gabrielse of Oregon, Wisconsin.
