Adult Studies Alumnus Is "Shining Example"

Alumnus Mariano Tamayo ’05 was recently named a 2008 Alumni Shining Example by the Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI). Focusing on the theme Teaching Civic Responsibility. Building Successful Communities., this year’s award honors alumni who are making positive changes in the communities where they live and work.
While enrolled in Trinity’s Adult Studies Business program, Tamayo worked as a youth coordinator and built relationships with more than 20 area organizations serving youth. He regularly draws on that experience in his current position as coordinator of youth program projects at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago, a long term residential home for troubled and hurting youth. 

“Trinity Christian College had a tremendous impact on me,” said Tamayo. “The skills and confidence I developed there have carried into my professional life.”

Tamayo received the Alumni Shining Example award at ACI’s 56th Annual Meeting on April 17.

The first generation college graduate remains grateful for his Trinity experience.

“Trinity gave me an opportunity to achieve a dream,” said Tamayo. “Thanks to my education there, I’m able to bring hope and encouragement to the lives of youth who need it most.”
