An Evening in Asia
Students and professors gathered to celebrate the Asian culture on April 8 during “An Evening in Asia.” The event was hosted by the Ethos Multicultural Association at Trinity in connection with the Asian Alliance Association.
The event began with members of the Trinity community sharing their knowledge of the Asian culture. Dr. Sherry Barnes, associate professor of communication arts, related information about China and Alex Manivong ’11 of Rockford, Illinois, discussed the subject of Asian immigrants. Johnny Itticheria ’11 of Bloomingdale, Illinois, and Pyol Thompson ’09 of Nottingham Park, Illinois, emceed the event.
The rest of the evening consisted of a dinner of Asian cuisine, games, and a fashion show organized by Jacinth Katta ’08 of Westchester, Illinois.
“As an Asian American, I get the best of both worlds,” said Katta. “I wanted to integrate my worlds; therefore, the theme I chose for the fashion show was East Meets the West, eastern clothes with western models.”
Marisol Miron ’10 of Chicago, Illinois, said the evening went beautifully, from the food provided by the Dining Hall staff to the decorations in the Grand Lobby.
“I am definitely looking forward to another event like this next year,” said Miron.
Paul Vang '08 of Champaign, Illinois, initiated the planning of this annual event and has been instrumental in its success.
