With assistance from city council, the residence life staff at Trinity Christian College sponsored "Love Palos" to show their appreciation to the Palos Heights community by conducting service projects on Saturday, April 13, 2002. For the 140 volunteers, the day began with a commissioning by Rev. Tim Hoekstra, College chaplain. Students broke into groups and began work at over ten different locations-area streets, nearby parks, and Lake Katherine (a local nature preserve). Back on campus, over 85 cars stopped to receive a free car wash.

"We were very happy with the turnout-all of the projects were well-attended," said Shannon Pothoven, one of Trinity's residence directors. "It was everything we hoped it would be."

The day ended with a picnic and a time of praise and worship where students were able to share their experiences from the day. Shannon said they hope this will become an annual event, and in the future, would like to see local churches and community members involved.
