Eyeing accreditation for the social work department of which she serves as chair, Mackenzi Huyser '98 completed a proactive measure in March to enhance the program even more. She put the finishing touches on her doctorate in curriculum and instruction after defending her dissertation at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

"Attaining this degree provided me with numerous opportunities to expand my knowledge base as I help develop our social work program," she said. "My studies gave me the flexibility to delve into the scholarship of engagement within the mission of Reformed Christian institutions."

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Huyser graduated from Trinity with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She returned to her home state to earn a master's degree in social work at Grand Valley State University before coming back to the College in 2000.

Trinity is seeking accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education, the only accrediting agency for social work programs in the United States. In November 2002, the CSWE granted candidacy status to the College, the first step toward accreditation.
