STUDENT WINS ACI CONTEST
The Associated Colleges of
Illinois granted Christine Pomroy, an education major in Trinity's TRACS
To Teach program, one of its four $2500 scholarship awards for winning
its Liberal Arts for Leadership Essay Contest.
"Teachers can be seen as
choreographers," Pomroy said. "By teaching and elaborating on their knowledge,
they help their students begin a new dance in the story of life. I hope
that my teaching will resemble that kind of art."
on the theme Teachers Lead, Leaders Teach, this year's contest challenged
students majoring in education to express why teaching is a leadership
profession and how their liberal arts education prepared them to be leaders
in the classroom. Pomroy's essay was judged one of the best efforts from
among 35 competitors from ACI institutions throughout the state.
Pomroy, a resident of Schaumburg,
Illinois, received her award at the ACI's 51st
annual meeting on March
26, 2003 in Chicago. Her essay was published in the commemorative program
developed for the meeting, and distributed at the event as well as to a
select list of business leaders and policy-makers throughout the state.
For the 2002-03 academic year, nine Trinity students have won scholarship
funds from the ACI.
