TRINITY HIRES NEW ATHLETICS
putting a puzzle together, Jeff Raymond saw Trinity's big picture, looked
at what was missing, and tried to place himself in that spot. Perfect fit.
Raymond, the sports information
director at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, accepted Trinity's
offer to become the athletics director, beginning this summer; he will
double as the track and field coach. The southern Illinois native is eager
to return to the Midwest.
"I like the Christian liberal
arts environment," said Raymond, who added responsibilities as Westmont's
assistant athletics director in 2001. "I have a lot of experience at the
small-college level, and this is a professional opportunity that I couldn't
pass up. I don't see this as a stepping stone to another job. It fits what
I was looking for, and Lord willing, I'll be at Trinity for a long time.
"For the most part, the coaching
staff is fairly young, and that usually means there's a lot of energy to
accomplish new things. The College is growing, and there appears to be
more emphasis on developing the athletics program. I want the program to
remain aligned with the overall mission of the College."
Raymond, who grew up in Assumption,
Illinois, took over Westmont's sports information duties in 1997. He manages
the institution's sports publications and media relations. He and his wife,
Deborah, who hails from Indiana, have one son, Elijah.
