Jennie Huizenga Memorial Library Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Trinity community paid tribute to a grand lady in December at the rededication service for the Jennie Huizenga Memorial Library. The library, completed in 1991, contains over 60,000 volumes, and offers students and faculty a wide array of educational resources, specialized periodicals, wireless computers, study carrels, and a quiet, comfortable place to read on campus.

Guests of honor included two daughters of Jennie Huizenga, Alice (Jerry) Jabaay and June (Tom) Huiner; a third daughter, Janet (Henry) Evenhouse, was unable to attend. Several former library staff members came for the service, including Hendrik Sliekers, Lois Boonstra, and Debra Veenstra. The library also houses the Van Namen Dutch Heritage Center, and contains the College archives.

Library Director Perry Recker planned the service for the Trinity community, which was led by Chaplain Tim Hoekstra. Student chaplains Abe Peterson, Danjuma Bulis, and Kristin Bielema participated in the readings. Rev. Hoekstra delivered a meditation based on Proverbs 2:1-6, titled "The Lord gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding."  Following the dedication litany, guests enjoyed a reception in the library foyer, and received anniversary bookmarks as a remembrance of the occasion.
