The next generation of Christian attorneys gained some valuable experience at the 2007 Troll Invitational mock trial on February 3. Students from three Chicagoland high schools, Timothy Christian, Chicago Christian, and Wheaton Academy, participated in the event. Trinity Christian College, the Center for Law, Justice, and Culture, and the Law and Politics Society sponsored the competition.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn how the law works,” said Trinity political science major Nathan Vis ’07 of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. “It gives the competitors exposure to the judicial system and helps them think on their feet.”

Students took turns stating their cases and presenting arguments. Steve Vander Woude ’01 of Hammond, Indiana, and Samantha Schultz ’07 of Oak Park, Illinois, kept order in the court as judges for the second annual mock trial. Jenna Stastny ’07 of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Jennifer VanEe ’09 of Pella, Iowa, and Jean-Raymond Desruisseaux ’07 of Chicago, Illinois, served as jurors.

Timothy Christian won the competition. Timothy’s Aaron Michnowski earned most outstanding attorney honors. Juliana Wilhoit from Wheaton Academy won as outstanding witness.
