Psalms, the Arts, and Worship Symposium

Trinity Christian College presents “The Psalms, the Arts, and Worship” on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Ozinga Chapel, featuring keynote speaker Marva Dawn, Ph.D.

The symposium will begin with a time of worship and the keynote address, focusing on the use of the Psalms in the arts as instruments of worship. Immediately following, those attending will have the opportunity to choose from various sectional presentations on the Psalms as incorporated in the visual arts, music, prayer, oral presentation, and theatre. The closing festival of worship will bring together the themes from throughout the day, with Dawn presenting several meditations on select Psalms. Those not attending the conference are welcome to join for this closing worship at 4 p.m. in the Ozinga Chapel Auditorium. This will be a time of song, prayer, and reflection centered around Psalms 145, 130, and 65.  Music will be lead by the Trinity Christian College Concert Choir.

Presenters include Emily Brink, Betsy Steele Halstead, and Greg Scheer  from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship; John Paul from Valparaiso University; and Dayton Castleman, Craig Mattson, and Yudha Thianto from Trinity Christian College.

Registration for the event is required. The cost is $30 per person and $10 for students. A group rate for groups of five or more is available at $20 a person. The registration fee includes lunch, provided by the College.

About Marva Dawn, Ph.D.
Marva Dawn, Ph.D., is a servant of the global church, serving under "Christians Equipped for Ministry" (Vancouver, Washington) as a preacher and composer, an instrumentalist and an educator, a choir director and a theologian.  She is also Teaching Fellow in Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A scholar with four master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in Christian Ethics and the Scriptures from the University of Notre Dame, Dawn has trained worship leaders and clergy throughout the world.  Among her more than 20 books is the ever-popular Reaching Out without Dumbing Down.
