Learning Locally and Abroad-Interim 2009
What would it be like…
To lunch where the writers' group that included J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis met to discuss life and literature?
Or to labor on a house in a nearby suburb that will soon become the new home of a needy family?
Or to hike to the caves where David hid from Saul and visit the synagogue where Jesus healed the sick?
Ask students at Trinity who have taken part in one of the many interactive learning opportunities offered each January during Interim, a two-week program held between the first and second semesters.
Students choose from a wide range of special interests and subjects in the humanities, sciences, and arts that provide a hands-on educational experience. Interim courses are led by faculty and staff of the College and held on campus and other locations locally and abroad.
The Christian Citizenship Interim gave students the chance to participate in the 2009 Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. “The conference was filled with speakers who challenged us to make a difference in politics and other areas of public service,” said Zachary Vis ’10 of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
Leah Branderhorst ’11 of Holland, Michigan, traveled on the Italian Culture & Cuisine Interim and attended a cooking class in Florence, Italy. “It was an amazing opportunity to work with the chef,” she said, “and it was nice to learn hands on how to cook authentic Italian food.”
The second semester has begun, but students, faculty, and staff are still reflecting on their journeys. Read journal entries from their experiences.
