Women's Basketball Players Named Scholar-Athletes  (3/23/06)
The term "student-athlete" certainly applies to the women's basketball team as they excelled on the court and in the classroom this year. All of the team's juniors and seniors received national recognition for academic excellence and were named all-American scholar-athletes.

Those six individuals are Alissa Barr (senior), Jessica Eenigenburg (senior), Barbie Heerdt (senior), Lynda DeKoekkoek (junior), Kim Van Drunen (junior), and Annette Witte (junior).

These scholar-athletes carry their dedication and hard work from the athletic arena into their academic work. They have each risen to the top of their classes and are active in their academic fields. Besides handling a varsity sport schedule, these six individuals are immersed in campus and leadership activities such as varsity soccer, student-teaching, coaching internships, residence assistance, Young Life, peer tutoring/mentoring, Bible studies and mission projects.

In order to receive scholar-athlete recognition one must be a junior or senior, a varsity player, and have at least a cumulative 3.4 GPA. Trinity was the only NAIA Division II institution to have six players named all-American scholar-athlete.
