Jill Ingelse '95
Seeing The World More Clearly

During her time at Trinity, Jill Ingelse '95 envisioned a bright future for herself. Now as an optometrist, she helps others see more clearly.

"I like taking care of people. Sometimes they come into my office and tell me about problems they have with their vision. I give them a pair of glasses and they say, 'Wow!' It's as though they see a new world. I never get tired of that."

Ingelse spent three years at the College in the early 1990s before enrolling in the Illinois College of Optometry in 1994. After her two-year pediatric residency ended in 1999, she purchased an existing practice from another optometrist in Blue Island, Illinois. "My location allows me to treat a mix of people from diverse backgrounds."

"I've always wanted a medical career, but I didn't want to be on call or tied down like a physician. I wanted the opportunity to have a career and a family, and this was the perfect setup to have both." Ingelse now has an 11-month-old son, Justin.

Ingelse grew up in nearby Alsip, Illinois, and graduated from Chicago Christian High School. Attending Trinity was a decision of convenience and logic for her. "The size and Christian atmosphere appealed to me. I liked the small classes and the sense of community there. It had a good science program, and I knew I would get a strong education that would help prepare me for what I'm doing now."

Motherhood and optometry don't allow too much free time, but during those rare moments of leisure, Ingelse likes running, biking, and camping. She also sings in the choir of the Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church, where she attends with her husband, Cory, a 1995 Trinity alum.
