Yuri Anleu '03
Education Alumnus "Shines"
in Classroom
With less than two years
of teaching experience under his belt, Yuri Anleu '03 already has garnered
statewide accolades for his work in the classroom.
The Associated Colleges of
Illinois included him in its class of Shining Examples for 2005. Anleu,
who completed the bachelor of arts in education degree in Trinity's Adult
Studies program in December 2003, has taught social studies at Heritage
Middle School in Berwyn, Illinois, for nearly two years.
"I was shocked but glad to
learn that the ACI honored me in this way," he said. "It makes me feel
good to know that I'm making a difference in children's lives. This award
motivates me to continue helping kids by being a good role model for them.
"It's important for me to
set my students up for success. I want them to become familiar with being
successful. I try to teach according to their needs so they can achieve
their dreams as I have."
Anleu attended the ACI's
annual meeting April 14 and accepted a plaque and gift certificate to purchase
classroom supplies. The ACI recognized four other graduates of its member
institutions who are living their commitment to teaching in schools of
high need.
"Trinity provided me a great
hands-on learning experience that has helped me as a teacher," Anleu said.
"The education cohort had a strong academic focus, and the spiritual aspect
of their teaching was uplifting for me."
