SUMMER AT THE BOOTSMA BOOKSTORE CAFE
FREE coffee Mondays! Start the week out with a free cup of coffee from the Bootsma Bookstore Cafe from 7:45-9:00 a.m. until August 25. TRINITY NIGHTS IN MILLENNIUM PARK
After the positive response to the event at Millennium Park on June 18, the development office decided to represent Trinity at more nights at the Pritzker Pavilion. All alumni and friends are invited to join Trinity at Millennium Park in Chicago for a free evening of classical music at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on several Wednesday nights this summer; remaining dates are August 6 and 13. Trinity representatives will be in the southwest corner of the Pavilion area; come and say hello for your free Trinity water bottle. HOST A SEA TO SEA BIKE TOUR CYCLIST
On Tuesday night, August 12, approximately 150 Sea to Sea Bike Tour cyclists will be at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Illinois. We are looking for welcoming families to host a cyclist/s for the night and give them a break from weeks of cycling and tent dwelling. If you would like to host a cyclist for the night of August 12, please contact host coordinator Eric Holtrop at 630.337.8126 or eholtrop@gmail.com.

Everyone is invited to a Meet the Cyclists reception from 7-7:30 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of Ozinga Chapel . From 7:30-8:30 p.m. attend a Film Festival with films based on the theme of poverty--two of which highlight poverty in Chicago. Monies collected through a free-will offering will go to causes supported by the Sea to Sea: Ending the Cycle of Poverty Bike Tour. This informal family event is sponsored by The Church Connection Initiative at Trinity. Come join us on Wednesday morning, August 13, at 8 a.m. for a send off service for these cyclists. Questions? TAC GOLF CLASSIC 2008
On behalf of the Trinity Christian College athletics department, the Trinity Athletics Club (TAC), and more than 150 student-athletes, you are invited to take part in the 2008 TAC Golf Classic. The event will take place on Monday, August 18, at the Calumet Country Club in Homewood, Illinois.

ALUMNUS AND SCIENTIST ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP
The College has received $20,000 for the Violet & Hung Nguyen Mathematics Scholarship, which was created through an education grant awarded to Dr. Hung Nguyen '78 after he was voted Test Engineer of the Year by Test & Measurement World magazine.

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: TRINITY'S TREE WALK
Students and visitors to Trinity's 60-acre wooded campus can now gain a new appreciation for the wide variety of trees that provide shade, vibrant color, and sweet scents in the College's natural environment.
Dr. Frank Hensley, associate professor of biology, continuing a project begun years prior by former ecology professor Dr. Gary VanDyke, recently tagged each of the nearly 40 species of trees on campus. For more, see our website at: tcc.trnty.edu/new/archive/072908/

GEORGE VANDER VELDE NAMED VICE PRESIDENT FOR CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT
"I kind of never left," quipped George Vander Velde, Ph.D. '63 of his long-time connection with Trinity Christian College. His father Maurice was on the founding board of the College, and Vander Velde enrolled as a chemistry major in 1961 when Trinity was a two-year college. He also served on the board of trustees from 1988 to 1994 and is the parent of a Trinity graduate.

The Trinity Christian College community mourns the loss of Janet André Bootsma, beloved wife of President Emeritus Dr. Kenneth Bootsma. She passed away on Monday, July 14, at the age of 69.

REQUESTING YOUR STORIES-CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY
Dr. Dan Diephouse is editing a book to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Trinity's founding in 1959. He would like to include some personal stories from alumni from various years recounting memories of their time on campus. Here are some topics to prompt your memories: stories about special classes, student pranks, the Troll, interim experiences, the philosophy wars, experiences with students or with professors, concerts, lectures, fund raisers, athletic events, OPUS, Fine Arts Festivals, chapels, drama, dorm life, apartment life, overseas programs, Chicago experiences, Palos Heights experiences, Trinity building experiences, times before Trinity computers and even telephones were available to every student and every faculty member. Trinity Christian College has an immediate opening for a full-time admissions counselor to participate in all aspects of the student recruitment process. Requires travel off campus to schools, college fairs, churches, and other organizations.
