Awhile back, I came across a few thoughts by author and speaker Max Lucado on Jesus sending out Simon Peter and his partners out to fish after a night of empty nets. Jesus had been speaking to the crowds that morning and asked Peter to return to the waters to try again.

After feeling the embarrasment of already returning with empty nets, Peter was tired and didn't want everyone to think he they were crazy for going back out. This exemplifies how difficult it often is for us to return to our places of past failure. But this time, Peter had the Lord on his side and the results couldn't have been more different.

"Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets." When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink." Luke 5:5-7 (NIV)

Sometimes God calls us to try again at something that may not have gone so well the first time. But, if we are following his will for our lives, the next try is likely to find more success.
